Description
I recently acquired a number of Asian Pottery/Porcelain bowls and other pieces and will be listing much of it. They were originally purchased in the 1970’s by a friend who lived in Indonesia for several years. She really doesn’t know much about them and I’m afraid I don’t know much about Asian Pottery or Porcelain so I’ve been researching online but I’m expecting that those people who buy and collect will have the knowledge to purchase with confidence. I will reference information and descriptions I find on other listings and websites as I’m able to research them. The following is a description of a very similar bowl on another listing. There are actually quite a number of very similar looking bowls online.
“A Chinese Zhangzhou blue and white porcelain dish, 17/18th century, the Zhangzhou "Swatow" export ware bowl, with underglaze blue and white design, with a central stylised 'Fu' character, for good fortune, typically surrounded by a band of floral design”.
I would describe the bowl as having a hand painted blue underglaze, not sure if Pottery or porcelain, with an unglazed bottom to the bowl. I’m sure the underlying blue pattern with Chinese symbols has meaning, I just don’t have the expertise.
This bowl is in really great condition. It has very very minimum wear. There are no chips or cracks or damage. It rings like a bell with no dullness to the sound.
Overall the bowl has many tiny flaws I would call glaze bubbles, it is hand thrown and slightly out of round, rough spots, glitches and tiny pock marks obviously from when it was made.
DIMENSIONS APPROX: 10 1/4” IN DIAMETER AND 2” Tall
